And, finally, according to Surfrider the Journal of Coastal Research recently published a study that reported a significant increase in maximum East Coast wave heights during hurricane season (June 1- Nov. 30) over the past few years. Specifically, from 1996-2005, extreme wave heights were both higher and more frequent than 30 years before due to both stronger hurricanes and increased frequency of storms. The bad news is that the bigger waves create greater hazards to coastal communities.
